My name is Michael Tingle and I created the Natural Recording Studio back in 2002. As a musician myself I’d found that a recording studio could be an uncomfortable and daunting place. Not everyone was suited to the studio environment, especially if they were particularly sensitive. So when technology evolved to the point where the core components of the studio could be picked up in a box and taken away, I thought the time was right to create a mobile studio that would meet the needs of many musicians and creative people by coming to where they feel comfortable. It also enabled a long held belief of mine that it would be just so cool to record in unusual locations which would provide an interesting experience and make for more natural productions with the bonus that the place itself could add character and uniqueness to the finished sound if that was so desired.

I’d been involved with recording for many years starting with 4 track tape recorders for my own projects and then gaining valuable experience working for a studio that used 16 track analogue tape and desk with midi sync. Around this time I worked for a PA company setting up sound systems for bands and learning the art of live sound on the desk. In the late 90′s when the digital revolution had firmly kicked in I got myself a computer and sound card and now had a digital tape machine with unlimited tracks, that was very cool! This leads me up to today where I have an all digital rig mixing ‘in the box’ using the latest technology (Apple computers, Logic Pro software plus a myriad of professional plugin fx’s and synths).
My plan for the future would be to set up a complementary analogue home base where I could combine some of the best of the analogue gear with the digital location recordings to have the best of both worlds.
